Auctioneers and appraisers from all over Scotland were hosted by NorthLink Ferries in Aberdeen recently when around 70 members of the Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland viewed NorthLink's new livestock containers and the upgraded lairage facilities at the north-east harbour.<br>
The visit to the NorthLink facilities was arranged by NorthLink freight
and logistics manager Eddie Barclay following a request from John
Gregor of Aberdeen and Northern Marts, who is vice-president of the
Institute.
Eddie Barclay said: "The gathering provided an opportunity for
Institute members to witness first hand the significant investment in
infrastructure and the improvements made in the way livestock are
shipped from the Northern Isles to the mainland, especially in terms of
the animal welfare requirements."
A lunch reception and guided tour of MV Hrossey was hosted by the
ship's master, Nigel Barnes and fleet manager of hotel operations,
Peter Hutchinson. Lunch had a truly Orkney and Shetland flavour with
Orkney beef broth, roast Shetland lamb and poached Shetland salmon all
on the menu.
Auctioneer Philip Reid of Aberdeen and Northern Marts gave a vote of thanks to the NorthLink staff who had arranged the visit.
